Windows 7: How can I make it faster?

I'm pretty comfortable with the performance. But, just for shits, I'd like to see how far I can take it without it being unstable.

I ran 3DMark06 and systems with lower specs were destroying my scores. Curious as to why?

Also, I have an original ATI Radeon 5850. Can I run, lets say an XFX, BFG, Sapphire ATI 5850 Crossfire with it? or must it be identical model and parts assembler?

Use 64-bit OS

get 12 gb memory and disable page file

Number one is to stop trying to compare 3d/06 results. For starters it was originally written for XP, and unless it has been updated it won't even detect your card (and a good chance the rest of the hard and drivers) properly.

I am running a 64bit OS.

Also, I just picked up another 5850. So that'll be in crossfire now. My dad is looking to upgrade to 6GB Ram, so ill probably upgrade when he does and give him my ram.

Well it seemed like it did recognize the newer components. Is there another program that shows the speed of your computer with specified tests, etc. That "us" OS 7 users use?

My advise has always been, "if you're not prepared to right now go out and buy a replacement, then you should probably avoid overclocking it".

Having said that... What sort of cooling do you have?

Never use your main computer as a test bed for overclocking... Find a box that you can afford to lose....disaster strikes at the most unwelcome times... Good Luck..

disable unneeded services. also more ram isn't really going to help you so much unless your running several apps at once and even then generally speaking 6gb is adequate. if thats the black edition 3.4 ghz phenom that i think it is then it is great for overclocking especially the 125 watt one, the 140 watt tends to not oc as high because of temps. that being said to replace that model processor is going to set you back $200 alone so if you go that route keep in mind it could be very expensive. if you want to get into that i'd recommend upgrading to liquid cooling, maybe setting that up will keep you busy for a little while. you could also upgrade to a ssd for your os and that would give you a nice power boost, but right now i believe you have the most powerful am3 processor available until the 6 core ones come out.

I wish there was faster. I would of bought it it is the black series.

I just picked up a second XFX ATI Radeon 5850. Going to run Crossfire soon as I learn how to configure it correctly.

Also, Im running a 10k RPM Raptor from WD then (2)1TB Seagates
