    Problem clearing virtual memory pagefile

I'm using Windows 7 64 bit and I'm having a problem disabling the option to clear virtual memory pagefile at shutdown since it makes shutdown takes 5+ minutes. Each time I disable it and restart my computer it enables itself again or maybe some software keeps enabling it. I tried disabling it using Local Group Policy Editor, and then again in the registry but with no use. Please any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hello Amadeuz, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If you have not already tried this, then this may help. It's the same in Windows 7.

    Hope this helps,

    .
Well, this is a shot in the dark; if Virtual Memory is set to "automatically manage paging file size for all drives" try changing it to "custom" and set the "Initial size" to the currently allocated size (or slightly larger). Set the maximum to 2X current (that's arbitrary, not some kind of personal rocket science). This certainly won't hurt anything and perhaps it will make the other settings stick.

Thank you Shawn for responding and for your welcome :), but I have already tried what you have suggested and it didn't work. I mean it works initially but then I have to do the whole process each time I want to restart my laptop because it just wont stay disabled.

Thank you Victek, I will try your suggestion and let you know guys...

I've tried Victek suggestion to tinker with amount of virtual memory allocated for the drive but it did work for me, the Shutdown: clear virtual memory pagefile option is being enabled after each restart. Any other suggestions guys?

    Amadeuz,

In this case you might consider a repair install to fix this without losing anything.

Shawn, thank you for your help man, however, I'm still not able to make the settings stick even after performing a repair install. I guess I'll just have to live with it like that .

Well, I suppose that you can always do a clean reinstall of Windows 7 to fix it if it gets to annoying.
