I doubt the clean boot method will fix my problem as I only have 3 third party services running.

I am just passing through. Might I ask if you are using homegroup? and do you have a non win 7 machine included?

Homegroup is for win 7 machines only. If you have a mixed environment the workgroup model is preferred

Changing from homegroup to workgroup is fairly easy. search the tutorials for leaving a homegroup

This is the only machine I have but I'm dual booting with XP. I just checked and apparently I am using homegroup but I don't share anything.

Just left the homegroup.

Also,,, Get some screens of Process Explorer during a large download.
