You're confusing Superfetch with Indexing services. Superfetch (Windows Vista I/O technologies - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) is actually used to speed-up application launch, along with other uses such as speeding up paging file usage. It's not nearly as evil as indexing and has nothing to do with searching files.
It's advised to leave Superfetch enabled, though certainly your PC will work fine with it disabled.
