Windows 7: ReBoot Time

04 Dec 2010   #1071

The BIOS does indeed take the lions share of time by the time it initiates everything

Using a stopwatch with split timing, from a cold boot it takes my BIOS 12.5 secs just to hear the POST beep. Then by the time it initiates the Video, USB controllers, RAID controllers etc another 14.5 secs has elapsed.

Basically I'm at 27 secs or so before it even hands over to Windows which then only takes 18-19s to load to a fully working desktop.

Although in the scheme of things, 45 seconds is still quick enough.

Dell Desktops: XP Pro 32b/64b - Dell D430 Laptop: Windows 7 Ultimate 32b

lol im actually impressed.. 60 seconds on a dell d430 that was at 160 degrees when it rebooted... :) only 2gb of ram, which is all the thing will take.. i can definately live with that..

i should really throw an ssd drive in this thing. anyone know what the biggest 1.8" ssd is? and where to get a decent deal on one? i think i have to buy a quick connect sata plug, never really messed with one of these.. probably wouldn't have bought it if I'd realized it had a frigin 1.8" drive in it..

found that, but OUCH! $300

W7 Professional x64 - Kingston SSDNow V+ 180 SVP180S2/128G 1.8" 128GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

1.8" SATA drive, 128GB, $275

The price is on par with other drives, and Newegg has a lot more options on capacity and whatnot.
