Okay, I read the AnandTech article on SSDs AnandTech: The SSD Anthology: Understanding SSDs and New Drives from OCZ and it got my curiosity going. At least enough to find out that Newegg has the 30GB OCZ Vertex on sale. So I gets me one with the 1275 firmware and throw it in an XPS M1330 and install build 7068 x64. Good GOD man, it's on the next task before I think of what the next task is going to be! ....LOL
This is just after installing. Nothing Disabled. Subsequent reboots have been getting a little faster.

I wonder how much improvement there still is with an SSD drive like Intel's X25-M for example.

    The article I referred-to:
AnandTech: The SSD Anthology: Understanding SSDs and New Drives from OCZ

really is a comparison of just that, how the "other" drives measure up to the Intel Gold Standard. I guess what got me to try the OCZ Vertex is that the Vertex is the closest one out there at this point in time. And the follow-up article revealed that the new firmware put it even closer. I couldn't resist when I saw them on sale.

I did a comparison on a Dell laptop that had Vista... then upgraded it to windows 7 and ran the Restart script on both'

    Vista: 209 sec
    7 : 122 sec

the laptop only has a 1.6ghz processor and 2GB ram so I wasnt expecting anything under 100. I was still floored with the difference!
