I believe Boot racer does not start timing till after the bios hands off to windows. My results are with the system running bare bones, no start-up programs or services. If I turn on services and my start ups I can boot in about 25 seconds and reboot is about 37 seconds.
Even on a clean install you will have allot of services that automatically start up, many of them are not needed.
I'm going to assume that you did some tweaking to get your bootracer times down that low? I too have the 80GB Intel X25-M Gen2 and with almost 0 tweaking on my part, I'm running at 16 seconds to logon and 26 to desktop (with a few seconds to type my complex password).
Edit: I see that you and I were typing at the same time. And you answered my question in your above post. Are numbers are pretty close to the same then with stuff running.

That's about where I was on my Vista64 PC. iirc it was about 124 seconds. I turned on boot logging and found that the system was waiting to load drivers that no longer existed. I had uninstalled Norton, but the registry entries to load the drivers were still there. I had to run Norton Removal Tool about 3 times.
The other thing is I leave an external USB Seagate hooked up all the time. During boot it powers down, then powers up, adding about 10 seconds.. but it's worth it.
My reboot time now is about 78 seconds.
Try turning on boot logging and see what it's waiting for.
All those optimizations about cleaning out your Startup folder and all that typically only cut off a couple of seconds. If it's taking that long usually the system is waiting for drivers to load or something else.
Search on how to use boot logging. I'm sure there's info on it already in the forum.

MilesAhead, looks like I have a similar setup but with W7, Norton running and an external HD attached for my backups. I did a test a second time with no changes to my setup and it was closer to 100 seconds.
I will also try turnning on boot logging to see what is going on behind the scene. Thanks for the reply.
Mine went from 67 seconds to 52 seconds after disabling the non-used 'JMicron e-sata/pata controller' and 'Realtek Boot Rom' in BIOS.
Sure thing. I'm surprised most of the advice for cutting down boot time has to do with "clean out your StartUp folder" stuff. That was true back in Win98 with really slow HDs. Now if I cleaned out all my auto start stuff it would only shave off maybe 2 seconds, esp. with boot caching.
It would be nice to find an in depth source of drivers and stuff that are started for chuckles and never really used or how to trace them down.
