page file on or off?

    page file on or off?


    hi i have windows 7 64 ,,with 4 gb ram,,do i need the page file on or will i see better performance with it off.
    Does it make any difference as i tuned it off on a vista machine and noticed it was better in gaming,,
    Was wondering if its same in windows 7 .

    With 4G, you shouldn't really need the page file, unless you do extreme Video and Graphics editing.

    I did it when i had 4G, and the machine seemed to respond a little better.

    Hello Sinbin,

    Be aware though, that some programs will require that the page file be turned on for the program to run properly no matter how much RAM you have installed. If you get a "Low memory" warning, or a program not running when it did before, then this may be why.

    I would advise to leave it turned on and set to be managed by the system, but it's your choice. :)

    i just remember turning page file of my vista machine i have and games seemed to playalot better/very weird.
    But ws not sure how windows 7 page file was set up

    4 gig in 64 bit, I would leave it on. 4 gigs in 32 off.
