What programs are you trying to update and what errors (if any) are you getting.

well, it started yesterday i was gonna play alient vs. predator 2 online (lol my only computer game cause im not that big into games but i like this one) and it told me that it failed to connect to the update server, so the day went on and i got back on later that night and decided to tinker around with SCAR, it said that it needed to check for the latest updates for that but that failed as well..... mmm idk if that explains anything but it just is no agreeing with me.... lol

Hello Loki, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Did you do a clean install of Windows 7? Sometimes a upgrade install will have bugs from the remnants of the previous Vista or W7 build.

You might also see if using Compatibility Mode with the program installation file may help.

    Hope this helps for now,
    Shawn

Thanks for the welcome and no i upgraded from Vista Basic which i upgraded from windows xp lol... uhh i don't have a dvd drive so i can't really do a clean install.. well i do but the laser has dulled out too much so it won't read DVDs anymore lol i'll try compatibility mode and see if that does anything thanks again i'll post if it works or not as well

    Update:

No Such luck it's not that the programs themselves are having problems running but it's that Something is refusing to let any of my Programs connect to update other then AVG.... i have no idea... im totally stumped also i noticed that BitTorrent was running Very Very slow... the highest it has hit download speed was about 22kbps which it usually downloads at 80+ ah well any ideas?

I suggest you make sure no other firewall is running, turn ON windows firewall and RESET firewall settings.

To do that, go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Windows Firewall and click Restore Defaults on the left pane.

    Loki,

I agree with Limneos. It sounds like you may have some 3rd party firewall program installed that could be blocking them. Usually if you do, it will have a icon in the bottom right area of the taskbar in the notification area.

hmm would avg count as a firewall? it's never given me any problms before but no i dont have anything else installed uhh well i did just get malwarebytes and ran a scan it found 3 trojans so im guessing something is wrong with avg cause it's up to date but it didn't pick anything up... so i will try turning it on and reseting it but how do i reset it?

Edit: Well, this might help to find out what is blocking it... alot of people won't be able to understand this but some should, it's the results of a HiJackThis scan it shows all the processes etc... uhh so maybe this might help you guys to find out whats wrong

is your avg8 the free version? if so there is no firewall included if it is bought then most likely your avg firewall will have turned off microsoft's. which means you may have to go into avg options and do some exception things in there regarding firewall allowing connections to certain software. have you been using the avg toolbar for a while? i personally can't stand it it slows everything down. so i would get rid of that one. have you actually tried to get updates turning avg off? one more question: are you sure those games work on windows 7?
