Power Options

I upgraded to Seven from Vista. Recently I have had power options problems. I cannot change power plan the following message appears: "Windows cannot retrieve this information". The plan showing has four options: Balanced, Energy Star, High Performance and Power Saver. When I restore my computer to an earlier date it will show only two options: Energy Star and Power Saver which I can change the plan on. When I do I restart it returns to the four options. Can anyone help solve this problem? Thanks

You can test for corruption and even correct it.

In the search box type cmd. Do not hit enter, but right click and then run as administrator. In cmd type sfc /scannow.

Report back.

In addition you can type event viewer in search and look for any errors after the problem occurs.

Finally, when an upgrade is done many members report problems. With an upgrade DVD you can do a clean install. That is my suggestion.

In addition to Rich's post above, you might also see if doing OPTION ONE in the tutorial below to reset and restore all Power Plans may be able to fix this for you.

Try the suggestion given by Brink, that will probably work with the current problem.

I, however, suggest, for your consideration, that you do a clean install, as I advised, originally. Based upon the many posts that I have seen, upgrades continually have problems.

In any event, I wish you luck with your current situation

Good point Rich,
Upgrades can be risky. I would always suggest that you just do an advanced install and install your new OS over your older OS. All of your personal files and program files(for reference when downloading them again) will all be saved to a Windows.old folder. Then you can just drag and drop the files where they are needed. And once you are done, you can delete the folder.
