charger squealing noise

I have a Acer Aspire 5520 laptop and since i updated to windows7 the charger has been making a high pitch squealing noise when plugged in.?
the squealing noise is coming from the power brick of the ac/dc cord. It also has been getting very hot and the noise has been giving me a constant headache. Anyone know what to do to stop this noise? I cant call acer bc their customer service sucks and wont let you talk to a human being unless you're computer is under warranty. PLEASE HELP ME!

Hi davkal2010 and welcome to the forums
I suspect of a coincidence, your SMPS started going bad at the same time you installed Win7. Win7 is said to make the CPU run a bit hotter than its predecessors, but I don't see how it could be pulling enough extra current to make your power supply complain
Can you find another power supply you could try on your laptop, or another laptop you could try this one and see if it squeals as well?

It's probably something inside the brick like a capacitor going bad. You will need to replace the brick from the "sound of it" Good luck!

Hi,

Welcome to 7 forums

Your adapter's brick should have a lock system without screws. You have to look for the correct pull out areas and separate the cover. If you are not sure, please do not attend since it may damage the whole. Take it to a technician to get it fixed !

I doubt you can fix it. It sounds like the switches have gone bad, it doesn't sound like a transformer or something like that. Meaning you would probably pay more to buy them than for a new PS. If you are lucky it could be only the filter caps as Nate suggested or some inductor, but the only way to know is to remove and test them. Which might break them in the process.

I have a laptop in which the charger 'pin' (to plug into laptop) seems bad. It's a bit loose when I wiggle it and when in the laptop, the cord has to be positioned just right for it to charge (it seems to lean the pin to where it can charge). I'm not sure if it's the charger or the port. The...
