    Confusion: Adjust Plan Brightness

In the Power Options > Edit Plan Settings window, I notice that there is not a "never" option for Adjust Plan Brightness. There is for sleep mode, display turn-off, and display dim there are, as you can see below:

My question is -- is this dictated by Windows 7 or the computer's BIOS? I know that may sound dumb to some, and forgive me for my ignorance. But, my understanding is the computer's capability to adjust screen brightness automatically when switching from AC to battery power, or vise versa, is from the BIOS. So, would Windows 7 display an option to allow you to turn off this feature if the BIOS allowed it?

Alternatively, is there any other way to disable this feature (i.e., other power management software, graphics card settings, etc.)?

    Thanks in advance.

    Welcome!

I don't think you could disable the screen brightness setting from the BIOS. Windows does have control over that.

You can set it so that the brightness is the same for both battery and plugged in, in which case you would not see a brightness change when you plug it in.

Is this what you are looking for?

    Thanks JK.

I know this sounds picky, but I would like the screen brightness to stay at one level until I change it, regardless of whether I'm running off battery or AC power.

The problem I have is that I often run the laptop in the vehicle (passenger, of course!) and to do this I plug it into an inverter. The inverter occasionally drops and this results in a the laptop switching back to battery power for just a second or two and of course, when this happens the brightness changes. This means that I'm constantly having the re-adjust the brightness settings.

Oh well, looks like my only option may be to try and fix the inverter issue.

Thanks. Great form by the way!

If you just change both sliders to the same level, you should not see a brightness difference.

Right. But I would have to go into Power Options and adjust these sliders depending on the time of day and couldn't simply use the function key to adjust brightness. No big deal, just a minor inconvenience.

    Hello!

I have a different sort of problem with screen brihgtness.
In the Plan Brightness I have switched to full brightness for both battery and plugged-in mode. But when i unplug my laptop, the display dimmes itself and I have to mannualy adjust the brightness. Same thing happens when I plug-in the computer.
I have corrected every available pover plan to maximum brightness and I am running the maximum preformance power plan.
And an awkward thing happens when teh display gets dimmed, and I open the ADJUST DISPLAY BRIGHTNESS menu and I slide the brightness to a lower level, the display gains brightness...

    Hello Jonathan,

    I completely agree with RB.

It is extremely inconvenient for me also to have the display change only when I unplug/plug in my computer. I have adjusted everything so that my computer does not dim or anything when I change from battery to AC- that is not the cause of the problem.

The cause of the problem is simply that there is no option to have the display change both the "on battery" setting AND the "plugged in" setting at the same time with the use use of the function key. Or is there??

Unlike RB, It is not just a 'minor inconvenience' as it is a 'major inconvenience' to continually have to change my battery brightness AND my AC brightness individually. Is there somehow I can link both these two "profiles" in this respect??

I would very much appreciate it!
