W7 --No performance degradation after several months

Hi all
With Windows XP I found that you needed to re-install it every so often as it would eventually get more sluggish. In fact people accepted gradual performance degradation as normal.

I've been running various Windows 7 machines for a few months now and have only had to re-install Windows because I've changed certain items of hardware / re-arranged disks etc.

I haven't had ANY problems with "Gradual Performance degradation" -- so another "Satisfied Customer".

You are lucky. Mine degraded about 20% since 10/09. Part of it is probably my SSD.

i am excited about ssd, are you finding the real world different from the hype or still adjusting to not having settings optimized for mechanical hard drives?

The SSD is really very good. I can compare because I have Vista on the same system but on a HDD. Even if I consider that Vista is a little slower by nature, there is a huge difference - especially in boot time (about 15 sec total until I can use the desktop).

I did not make any specific settings. I let the Windows7 installer make the settings (alignment, disabling certain functions like Defrag). I even reenabled superfetch because I think it is useful. So far, so good.

My SSD is an Intel 80GB. I have another one which I will install on a laptop (with Vista) once I am back in Germany - mostly to fight the heat of that laptop. My third one is an OCZ 60GB Vertex on which I will install Windows7 - also in Germany. But that will only be in May when I am back there.
