Need help in undoing registry tweaks

    Hi,

rather rashly tweaked registry using a file provided on Windows 7 Registry Tweaks >> Registry Tweaks for Speeding Up Windows 7 / A nice collection of most Useful Tweaks for Windows 7.

While good in terms of speeding up shutdown, I suspect it's behind some of my current problems - mainly Taskbar and Outlook not remembering aspects of customisation.

But there's no help in reversing these tweaks and I'm hoping someone clever can save me a lot of research time.

    Here's the full list:

    "IsolatedCommand"="cmd.exe /c takeown /f \"%1\" /r /d y && icacls \"%1\" /grant administrators:F /t"

Really hope someone can help. Thanks in advance.

    Fast way: system restore.

Just select a restore point before the tweaks were made.

I neither have one nor would want to. It's too long ago. I've only recently twigged it might be responsible for the issues I'm having with retaining settings...

You might try a repair install.

Gawd. Thanks but this sounds like a lot of work. There aren't that many changes in the file I posted. Is there anything easier?

Not being lazy but something so radical sounds like it's going to involve a lot of work - and at least 50% likely I will be reinstalling before the day is out!

Well if I know exactly what reg values you changed, I could look in my registry and tell you what the default values are.

Edit: I see the values in your first post. This will take me some time, but I'll get back to you ASAP.

Edit 2: I took a bunch of snips and zipped them up. See if they help any.

I know this won't help your problem, but for next time, just export your registry to a file. You can do just the key you plan on changing or the containing hive. just right click the key on the left pane and choose Export. Then name it something you will remember. That way if you screw it up and want to get it back you can just import the key back in.

To add to Desslok's advice, it is a good idea to backup the registry before such tweaks.

Yes, thanks to both. Truth be told, I should have installed this tweak without knowing EXACTLY what it did beforehand. Most remiss of me. I didn't even read the tweaks.

I would have had to back up the individual keys themselves though as a full reg back up would have just left me with a reg from yesteryear - which would no doubt cause all sorts of problems with everything I have done since...

Many thanks again. Will report back.
