Disable "Windows has detected slow performance" nagging

I experienced the same issue for 3 of my games - BFBC2, Dirt 3 and Homefront. I did a search on how to disable the message but couldn't quite find a solution. I spent hours trying to stop the message, from disabling error reporting, to performance log reports, etc.. but still the message continued to appear when playing these particular games.

I finally found the solution - updating the game. Turns out certain games have a memory leak issue, using up all of the memory on your computer in a certain amount of time. There is nothing wrong with your computer, but with the game itself. Having just released Dirt 3, a recent update solved the problem. I hadn't updated BFBC2 and Homefront in a while, and when I did, no more messages appeared. I can't believe the solution was so simple.

Other solutions out there on the web includes changing paging file and changing RAM configurations from 1T to 2T. You need not do any of this. Just update your game.

I am running ATI/AMD quad core with 16 gigs of DDR3 ram along with a second video card running 1 gig of DDR3 memory. This is a recent install of 7-64 bit. I did not have the error until I just got force fed an update (9KB2532531 and KB915597).

This is a new system with very little resources being used so it must be related to my ATI crossfire configuration. I am getting this when I am getting 60FPS in WOW so go figure.

I too am running a new system:
AMD Phenom x6, 8GB DDR3, ATI Radeon 3000 (on board), ATI Radeon HD 5750 (external)
and also getting this annoying problem.

The nags usually begin with video or media visualization on second monitor then eventually turns off Aero with a message about not having enough dedicated video memory (DVM), which is BS according to Process Explorer.

It show's typically less than half the DVM is actually in use.

I recently turned off "User Account Control", and it seems to have mitigated the problem, even when pushing the GPU usage to the limit. But I'm still not sure if this fixed the actual problem and I also don't like disabling ALL the safety nags (some are good, imo).

The popup hits me when I am playing BattleField 3. Just when I am in the middle of a bun fight - grrr.

Answer is - for a specific hard hitting graphic app:

2) ...then the alternative is Right click on your application exe file, then click on properties, click on Compatibility, then check (tick) the "Disable Desktop Composition" option. Now, everytime you start the particular app, windows will disable aero and hopefully your performance nags will disappear. When you close the app, aero will be restored.

Hopefully MS will realize their "miss" with this "feature"

I tried to set this service to stopped and disabled the automatic start just for fun.
I lost a few nice visual effects immedieately when I killed the service which was sad, but the message is really that much annoying that I rather have less spacey visuals than live with that "less than smart" notification

so im having the same issue

realy dont think i should be having this issue.. by any chance do we all have steam installed and opted in to ati updater that is built into steam? only seems to have started since i installed the newest drivers.. also after this my "experience score" for my aero droped by 0.5.. think this could be the problem?

Did you try setting your System Properties' Visual Effects to "Adjust for best appearance"?
This may occur if it is set to "Adjust for best performance" and is throttling appearance (Aero) down for better performance.

What I do when I see this error is adjust Visual Effects to disable fading, sliding, animation, selection rectangle, and dragging intact - as shown in Optimize Windows 7 - Windows 7 Forums.

These take a lot of pressure off of resources to relieve the Desktop WIndows Manager, but isn't visually noticeable.

I would not turn off Aero or adjust for Best Performance which are unnecessarily radical and have their own ill effects as mentioned above. If your hardware cannot support Aero it will not turn on to begin with.

And always have the latest Display driver, ideally from optional WIndows Updates.

If all you are looking to do is getting rid of the constant alert message, without changing all your settings, and performance, and Aero, and everything else, then I would suggest this article. Worked like a charm for my work computer.
