It sounds like a memory problem. Go to search type process explorer and lets see what is using your ram.

Try running Malwarebytes and see if that picks up anything.:)

download the free version of superantispyware and see if it finds anything malware and spyware cause systems to slow right down.

I suggest you use "Resource Monitor" see if anything spiked out in either of the tabs (Processor, Memory, Disk, Network) before reformatting...

I also faced this problem with my current Desktop.

It used to slow down every month and in the end opening a few windows would make it very slow.

I reverted back to Vista Last week. It runs roughly 5 times Faster than Windows 7.

Opens everything instantly uses even lesser resources. 300MB lowest ever recorded.

If possible try installing Vista and check the difference in performance.

I use Kaspersky Anti-virus 2010.. Actually I feel this slowness while entering the folders. every time it refreshes when I double click the folders!! and when I click safety remove button also, that small box will appear after 4-5 secs later.. but before it was fyne..

Anyway, thanks for the suggestions guys!! I like this forum.. BTW here is a screenshot of Performance tabs of Task Manager..

looks like you have way to much running in the background, are you really using all of these applications at the same time? if your not using on a daily basis or instantly after start up i would disable photoshop as well as one of your web browsers eather firefox or exploror dont see why you would need want both unless your using somthing that firefox does not support or somthing. and also live messenger and side bar unless your use side bar, disable media player from running as well unless like i said your using all of these applications at the same time. I personally dont use it but its your computer. just figure out what you use and dont use and drop what you dont use often. Also what i did was i looked up alot of the other stuff that is runing just out of curiousity just to make sure it was stuff i actually need running. I am in no way an expert and im just giving my personal opinion to you on what i would do if that was my task manager window.

You've got to click on 'Show processes from all users' to get the full list of 55 processes. I'd like to know why Firefox is using so much memory, mine only uses about 70Mb. I don't think the number of processes is too much of a problem, mine has 49 and it runs quicker than quick.

Nero alone is enough to cause this problem. It's by far the worst program of all time. It's famous for taking over your entire system and is worse than any spyware or malware infection known to man. There are many burning programs available to replace Nero that don't have nearly as much overhead. This problem has NOTHING to do with Windows 7!

    Here's some advice:

Cut down on the amount of programs running at the same time.
Use one web browser, not two.
Download and install CCleaner from Piriform (Don't use registry cleaner)
Download and install Defraggler from Piriform
OR Use the default defrag program
Replace Nero w/ IMGBurn or CDBurnerXP

This is what your average 4GB DDR3 system will look like at startup 30% memory usage is a bit high, but I have Avast, Comodo, Everest and a host of services for Logitech and Creative. My memory rarely spikes above 50% even if I'm using multiple programs at the same time. The only time it spikes huge is if I'm watching videos or playing video games.

Your biggest memory hogs atm are WIndows Live Messenger & Firefox. If you have a ton of firefox windows open, that makes sense, otherwise try to cut down on the amount of add-ons you use. Also, see if using the Trillian program will cut down on your memory usage via Windows Live.

Also, be sure to run regular defrags and anti-virus/malware scans. You should also consider a fresh install. When you do this fresh install, download a program called Macrium Reflect to make a system image & boot disk of your computer. Make this system image right after you install all drivers/required programs. If you make a system image, you can revert to it any time you have problems with windows or want a fresh start. It takes me about 40 minutes to revert to my system image, but thats just because it's large and I use a usb hub that slows it down a bit.

If you go the Macrium Route, make sure that you test the Boot Disk after you make the system image. You'll need to be sure that you can not only boot and control the boot disk but also that you can access your system image on whatever external drive you use to store it.

The last piece of advice I'll give is for you to do hardware diagnostic tests. Even if you have a newer system, you can get bad parts. If possible, download something like the Ultimate Boot CD or Memtest86 and run tests on your memory & hard drive. When you go to the download page, choose an ISO and then download a program like IMGBurn to burn it to a CD.
