Problems with RAM

I have 4GB of RAM on my laptop running Windows 7 Ultimate, but it will only page 2.73GB max, I have it set in performance to minimum 3072 and max to 4188. How can I make it so it will actually page 4GB?

First of all... Please fill in your system specs in User CP...

If you're using 32 bit windows it has an upper limitation of 4gb - IO space and Hardware buffering, usually leaving you with about 3gigs of available ram. If you are using imbedded video (not a busscard) whatever memory is allocated for that reduces your available ram even further.

The 64 bit version is a whole different story...

Are you referring to virtual memory?, because that uses HDD space as RAM when the RAM has reached its cache limit. You cant adjust the amount off RAM you have in your computer unless you take a stick out off the slot.

Good catch... Rereading the thread so far has me wondering the same thing.

I had a problem with ram and x64. It was only showing half my ram. Turns out 2 sticks of brand new ram were bad. They swapped them out at the shop I bought it at and then t showed all. It was driving me INSANE trying to figure out why it wouldn't read it all.

If you could post a picture of your Resource Monitor > Memory tab (the color bar), we would be better able to assess your situation.

I will add that if you see references here to panels you are not familiar with, type the first few letters in the Search files and Programs box (click start to see it).

At this point, it looks very normal. But you have to realize that this picture changes all the time. As the day progresses and you are calling more and more programs, Superfetch will cache more. That means the dark blue portion will get bigger. But that is no problem because both the light blue and the dark blue portions are "available RAM" meaning it can be used by programs (or the modified) when needed.
Just a little oddity. I see one lone page fault from MSE. I see the same on my system from time to time and I never understood why MSE would generate a page fault with that much available RAM.
