Pages Opening Slower

Guys I have a question I have noticed that in the past week my PC was opening pages on the web slow then usually so I checked a few thing and everything is the same but my DSL speed. I am on a 3meg system here is the only thing I see that has changed. My PC would run a speed test and the results would be 3.01mbs all the time but now the best is 2.85mbs but the upload speed is the same. That small change would not be noticed surfing the web right?? I have been around and around with at&t about the change in speed but they told me it was nothing they could do.. Something changed for my speed to change from 3.01 to 2.85??? What would you check for this problem??

That sounds like a normal change in speed caused by your provider. If you run the test a few more times I'm pretty sure you'll see more deviations.

More Speed Tests:
Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test
Speed Test - dslreports.com

If you want to speed up your computer in general:

Download CCleaner: Download Link
Use it to clean out old Browser temporary files, etc. It should help your browser speed.
Do not use the Registry Cleaner

Download Defraggler: Download Link
Use it to run a QuickDefrag right now, and then a Full Defrag the next time you get a chance. The quick defrag shouldn't take more than 10-30 minutes, the full defrag may take hours depending on size of files, fragmentation, etc.

Make a speedtest from here. Pick a server about 400-500 miles away. Your Ping time should be around 50ms.

That difference won't affect your browsing speed, there's gotta be something else. 3mbps is VERY FAST, I'm on 1.5mbps, and I load websites quite fast.

I use that speed test all the time, Like I said a week ago I was getting 3.01mbs down and 330kps up until last week now 2.86mbs and 330kps and I don't know what changed. I have changed everything modem, cables, box on the outside of the house, I even had a bellsouth tech at the house today and he said it was in there spec but there spec is 2.0mbs on a 3 meg system. They told me as long as you were getting 1.6mbs on a 3.0 plan it was FINE... that was BS to me...

Is your router capable of doing speed test? I surely hope it can, to rule out any malwares/virii/whatever junk that might hop and eat your bandwidth... *zzz2496 loves his Mikrotik box*

I am running a motorola 3000 modum with 4 ports that are hard wired in to 1 more PC. But since this small issue I unhook it off the modum. The only thing is it droped about 150kbs from a week ago. Maybe that is not enough to see a differance in speed??

It is not the upload/download time that matters in this case. It is the Ping time. That gives you an idea thru how many hoops they send you.

Win 7 is far slower than XP in opening network folders - why?
I have a dual boot system (XP and win 7) XP works just fine, Win 7 is slow on viewing network folder contents. I have some network folders with 1500, 3000, and 5000 files. It's very slow opening those folders just to see the files anywhere from 15-30 sec. I'd like Win 7 to handle this the same...

Suddenly opening things is slower
Alright, so I have this bad problem on my laptop. I have had it for about a year now, and nothing bad has happened to it, apart from one virus about half a year ago, which was supposedly wiped off my system. As of now, whenever I open something up, it loads REAL slow. For example, when I open up...

My win 7 runs slower than XP when opening folders
I reccently did a fresh install of Win 7 and all seemed good, I had 2 Gb of RAM when I did the install. I read that it seems to work better to install with 2 then add the other 2GB. When I first noticed Win 7 running slow I turned off all the bells and whistles and it seem to run much faster...
