ahh unfortunately "hybrid" didn't work for me...
    and johnathan:
this is what i got, standby <S1> the system firmware does not support this standby state
standby <S2> the system firmware does not support this standby state

so i'm guessing that's why the computer keeps turning off bcause it doesn't have sleep mode...?? then why does the computer have options to go into sleep mode?!
and in that case what should i do? i tried hybrid that didn't work either....i just want the computer to "sleep" without shutting it off...how can i do that now?

I suggest a BIOS update. You may also check in the BIOS, to make sure S3 sleep is enabled, or any "Suspend to RAM" settings.

Here is a screen shot of how to turn hybrid sleep on once you are in the 'advanced power settings'. Make sure that you edit all the power plans that you use, or it will work sometimes but not others.

EDIT: Also, as J. King said make sure that S3 sleep is enabled in the BIOS, or this won't work.

Normally when you turn the computer ON during boot-up you can usually tap the DEL key several times & it will take you to the bios setup. Look through the several menu screens for enabling the S3 sleep mode. Save & Exit & re-Boot computer.
