    Upraded 1gb to 4gb of RAM - 896MB 'usable'!

Hello, I have Windows 7 Ultimate (32bit) loaded on my Toshiba laptop. I installed 2 x 2GB PNY chips of Ram into it (factory had 1gb, 2 x 512MB). The machine recognizes that it has 4GB of ram, but only shows 896MB as usable (the same as when I had the initial 1GB). Can someone lead me in the direction to figure this out?

From what I've googled is 4GB is max, common is 3.75GB usable. I'm a far cry away from that!

How are you determining the amount found and the amount used?

    What does your BIOS say?

Can you supply specific laptop model info and the model of the new ram?

Ok so you are running 32 bit, usually it can only recognize 3.25 gigs. What is yours seeing?

Control Panel > System & Security > System > "Installed Memory (RAM): 4.00GB (896MG usable)

    Is that my BIOS?

Toshiba Satellite A215-S4697. New ram is 2x2GB PNY PC2-5300 DDR2.

I'm a computer newbie so bear with me! Thanks!

Did that, Mac Memory was unchecked, and is grayed out at "zero" when I opened the Advanced options.

    Thanks-

Post a snip of Windows Task Manager, Performance tab.

Right click toolbar => select 'Start Task Manager' => Performance tab.
Then take a snip using 'Snipping Tool' from the start menu.
