    Start up nightmare

    Hi there, Someone please help...
I installed windows 7 about 4 months ago and loved it.
Over the last month thou i have reinstalled it twice to get rid of this problem.
Every time i startup my computer it comes up with a menu to select either start windows normally or startup repair. I can not get rid of this menu and i have tried to. Most of the time, even if i click on start windows 7 normally it will still go to startup repair. I have tried starting my computer with everything disconeccted but the keyboard and mouse and still get the problem. When i first installed windows 7 it would never do this. even after reinstalling windows 7 it would be ok for the first few days. I would then start to install my programs again one by one, restarting the computer after every install. everything is ok. Few days after installing my programs i start to get the problem. When i turn the computer of, it shutdowns ok, it doesn't take to long, maybe 1 minute to close.
Does anybody have ideas to help me with this?
    Many thanks

First off, welcome to 7F, Djbellies. I'm sorry you had to visit for sour business but let's see what we can do.

Are you able to boot into safemode? If so, run chkdsk /r in a command prompt. This would be the first thing I'd do.

Also, disable automatic restart as well when you press F8 and let us know if you get a blue screen.

I have seen similar problems like this. This could be a bad hard drive. Have you checked the event viewer logs?

Hi there, thanks for your help on this. I've tried what you said to do. I can get into safe mode no problem. Ran checkdisck all is ok, no bad sectors etc. I've disabled the automatic restart and no blue screen as yet.
one other thing is that from the time i select start windows normally and it loads up with thew windows flag it takes up to 2 minutes before i get to my log in screen.
The computer runs perfect after it loads up. It's not sluggish, everything seems ok. Ran full antivirus scan on all hard drives with nothing detected also the same results with windows defender.
    cheers

I have just looked at the event viewer logs to find that i have errors relating to the disk. I have no idea what this really means as after running chkdisk there were no errors. i have attached the error logs to this post, i think. Before the last reinstall i formatted the hard drive before reloading windows 7 so that i would have a clean install. My hard drive only contains the windows 7 folders and documents. it is not partitioned into two sections.
Does this mean that i will need to get a new hard drive?
Many thanks for your help and ideas

    .
When you ran "check disk" did you use the /R option? - "chkdsk /R" - so it would scan the whole disk surface? The event viewer clearly says there are problems reading some areas of the disk. I believe you will have to replace the drive if check disk cannot fix it. The drive may still be covered by the manufacturer's warranty so check that out.

Yep, looks like a bad hard drive to me. You can try the chkdsk /r, but if you have really re-installed several times on the same drive over and over and are getting the same errors then the drive is bad.
