This is just my view and what I have read, an SSD is better used for just your OS, let other programs reside on secondary fast HDDs' too much writing to a SSD can with time affect it's performance plus drives that are higher than 80% filled can also suffer performance issues.

Things like TRIM are critical to keep them running fast, and the newer version IIIs' will be even faster.

djmorgan,
While I still have 17+gb free out of 59gb usable it's like anything I wonder at what point with more apps and their updates and such will I get less performance from restrictive space available. Your 100 percent correct on the OS but it's still sweet to have your intensive apps there too.

Great plan, I'm doing the same.

My laptop is begging for the old SSD now, hope the 25nm Gen3s come out soon.
Don't know how long I can hold out

Have been checking the SSD prices biweekly and they have been declining recently, hope this means the 25nm are getting closer.

If they drop significantly more, I'll have to get one. The only thing holding me back is $/GB.

I can say with 100% satisfaction that the 64gb is more than enough and an excellent starting point. Like I've said once you pull that trigger you won't look back !

Ought to be. it's got 2 of those xeons in it and 4HDDs in RAID 0. the memory alone cost more than most of the machines that people here use, but it should pay for itself in saved time within a year or so though. Instead of taking a 20 minutes to create a new ISO for a custom install, it takes 2 minutes. As soon as I learn how to do it, I'm was thinking of offering remote management for my more pebkac prone customers who bought laptops with TPMs from me.. they bring in their computer, I hook it up to the network, and a half hour later they walk out with their system in the same state it was the day they bought it except for updates, or if their internet connection is fast enough, I figure I ought to be able to do the same thing without them having to leave home.
