Boosted processor score to 7.7 by changing default mobo memory speed from 1333 Mhz to 1600 Mhz (what my memory speed is rated for)
Looks good, is it time to OC that CPU?

I'll bet you can easily get a 7.8 out of it

Nice upgrades, always great fun changing the componets.
How does the new system feel compared to the old one?
Feels great. I know it's one of the old i7s, but I got it for a nice price off a mate, so thought I'd save myself a bit of money. The SSD makes the world of difference, which I'm sure you've seen with your SSD. Just a shame I can't put everything on it
    Sounds like a good deal.

SSDs are great, will be nice when they're cheaper than HDDs
Haven't a clue how to OC, tried reading up on it but sounds confusing, however when most of my warranties run out and I have a functioning bank account again than it's BBQ time Ha Ha.

Right now I am working on speeding up POST time and windows start-up time (58 sec now, 78 sec previous)

Find a nice tutorial on OC'ing that CPU, it's a great learning experience.
I'll check some sourcs and post a link when I find a good one.

Your post should be in the 20-30 sec range

I haven't run a speed test on my boot time yet, I turned off the boot GUI because it wasn't even getting a chance to finish, now my welcome screen flashes for about a second, doesn't stay long enough to read the 'Welcome'.

Here's mine, I moved my SSD from GSATA 2 to SATA port. Weak spot seems to be my Quadro 2000

Well I had a drive die on me yesterday and although it lasted 7 years+ and I managed to save every scrap of data, I have now gone over the 10TB Hard drive mark. I have now promised myself that the next hard drive I buy will be an SSD so look out for 7+ score ratings after next upgrade.
The most likely candidate is a 250Gb OCZ Vertex 2 with SATA III Technology (Only on SATA II at moment but it's backwards compatible and will set me up nice when I trade in my MOBO and RAM for AMD Crosshair 3 and 16GB DDR3 1600MHz after the summer holidays).

My SSD is an OCZ Onyx 32gb. It's a cheap SSD but is much better than a mechanical disk for boot. I only payed 49$ for it at Microcenter one weekend.
