I'm pretty sure they said the max temp was a little over 100. I know the GPU starts to clockdown at 100. But that's only on the stress test. Ive never seen the processor go over 30%. Its stays at 20% and under when playing games so I see no point in overclocking it too much. I was just running Heaven Benchmark in a 800 by 600 window and the GPU got to like 67 degrees and the fan speed just stood at 27% the whole time, Is there something wrong?

The CPU will throttle down at 100 degC, this is to prevent it from melting.

Have a look at this site, about half way down there is a long post that explains it very well, with good reference links.

    Vcore Max 1.375v
    Tcase Max (CPU temperature) 68c
    Tjunction (Core temperature) 73c

...any i7 9xx Core temperatures which exceed 73c should be considered "overtemp"
    Your Intel spec sheet:
    Intel® Core™ i7-930 Processor
This is the max temp from Intel, if your monitoring core temps it's 73 degC.

    TCASE ...................67.9°C

You can permantently damage your CPU by running at high temps, this can also degrade the life of the CPU.

Thanks. I was way off. Well I'm not going to overclock it anymore so I guess its ok. If I see those temperatues again, I'll go back to stock.

    Orli155,
Smart idea to look for much better cooling solution before you push harder. Bring it down to safe temps and research your next cooling mod.

    Good decision.

The key to overclocking is knowing your equipment limits, temps are very important.

Upgrade your CPU and case cooling if you want to OC higher.

    Orli

A good place to start for a CPU cooler upgrade.
    Good info and testing comparisons.

Scroll down a couple paragraphs on that page it also has links to earlier tests not in the new one.
I read through almost all their testing over the past year and went with the Scythe Mugen. Best value for price and cooling.
Prolimatech Megahalems was best all around but a lot more money. The fans are extra.

Read through and get some good info before jumping on one that just looks good.
Performance even if ugly is the goal.

I should get a Scythe Mugen 2. Everyone says those are really good. The Megahalems look good too. those are not until later though since I just bought my computer. Looks always come second.

Had to rerun the WEI assessment since I just added a new SSD drive. The new drive took me from a 5.9 to 7.6 rating.
