So i guess the next step is to do a system restore System Restore

If that doesn't fix it your best options are laid out in this thread: Corrupted registry
That's what the computer professional response would be. The same hardcore computer enthusiast response who strongly recommends endorsing or using registry cleaners would have long disabled the system restore feature as it's totally unnecessary and consumes far to many precious computer resources. :) :) :)
I can't tell you how many times I've used System Restore. It's valuable feature to anyone who may ever have problems down the road.

Telling someone to disable system restore is irresponsible and not in the best interest of the casual user.

I disable mine, but only because I make frequent complete drive images w/Acronis & prefer complete drive restore if theres a problem.

But i do agree, advising others to disable it is not a good idea. Especially if there is not alternative method of recovery.

The membership of this forum represents a cornucopia of Windows 7 knowledge, however, I have seen so many threads with a solution of a system restore. I think that is all that has to be said.

I will admit that System Restore is better by miles apart from System Restore in XP.

Although I agree that system restore is a valuable resource (also for retrieving lost files with Shadow Explorer), it is a rather capricious service that works or it doesn't. I much more a fan of Imaging - that is safer and more reliable. And I know a lot of you will agree - LOL.
