    increased start up time

mine is a dell inspiron 1440
    3 gb ,320gb, 64 bit
    512 mb graphics card

its a new one.the first few months the startup time was less. i had disabled certain unwanted startup services and programs. but recently i noticed that its taking very much time to start up. what used to be a minute and a half has drastically increased to 2 mins.

give me sme ways by which i can improve my startup time. and what are the possible reasons.

What I did was go to the start button and type in mscongfig in search programs and files then click on msconfig look in start up tab and unchecked items that I didn't want in startup. Then I rebooted and computer then started up faster.
This is just one way but it works for me and I am from the OLD School.

    And welcome to Win7 Forums.

Check your graphics driver. That was my problem recently when I had a similar problem. But, of course, your problem may be different.

The only items I let in msconfig>Startup are my AV, gadgets and stikynotes.

All others are freeloaders which leech CPU/RAM for no good purpose except to phone home (spy) to check for updates which will announce themselves anyway if you click on and use the program.

there is nothing left in my startup. i removed all the unwanted things already. even when every device was loading, it used to take less time. than now.

How far back can you System Restore? Maybe you can get before the problem happened.

See what the oldest date given is for SysRestore, then look at programs it will affect to see if you want to reinstall them or choose a later date. Your files will be retained.

If you have very limited System Restore points, create more space for System Restore on the System Protection tab at rightclick Computer>Properties>Advanced Tools. If you have lots of HD space, apportion 10% or more for SysRestore points.

If SysRestore doesn't solve it, consider a clean reinstall. Then get a System Image as soon as you have programs installed and everything is running just as you like. Then you'll always be able to restore to a better time in 15-20 minutes - you'll just need to copy your files, favorites and some settings back in.

    1) Try disconnecting everything that's not essential, and see if that solves the issue. If it does, then add devices back over time to see if/when the problem returns.

    2) Run a problem report.

Problem Reports and Solutions - View History Details

    3) Use the Troubleshooting tool.
