stop smart panel from startup

When software cannot be deselected for Startup in msconfig without writing itself back in, you need to open it and poke around until you find the checkbox in Preferences, etc. where it is selected to start with Windows.

Sometimes Printers will lose the ability to open their Scanner or Fax interface on your desktop if you uncheck one of these.

If no effect is had on convenient use of Scanner, Fax or Printer, I usually end up uninstalling these, too, or learn to uncheck them during Custom install.

It's a bit devious, but the uninstall row is there in the control panel, only it is called Maintenance this or that, don't remember exactly. Check the M alternatives and you'll find it.

Its called "Maintenance Samsung "xxx" Series" Where "xxxx" is your printer model or model range.

My smart panel was crashing when using the specific driver for my printer, I had to start using the "universal print driver" as default to prevent that. I didn't like Smart Panel running in my tray. This last comment helped me to identify it and remove it.

To prevent the Samsung Smart Panel from running on Windows start up, open the registry editor (press windows + c, then type regedit at the prompt) and search (Ctrl + F) for "SSMMgr". This is the name of the process that it's running under, easily viewable from Windows Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc). The search should find it under a "Run" folder. On my machine, it was under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> Microsoft -> Windows -> CurrentVersion -> Run. This entry tells windows to run the executable upon start up. Delete this entry. If you are nervous, back up the registry first or copy the data to a text file, noting the exact location and you can put it back later. But there is no reason you need Smart Panel running every time you boot your machine. Smart Panel will still be available from your All Programs list whenever you want it.

I also recommend only installing Smart Panel on ONE machine designated to perform necessary maintenance, or more generally, just on the machines that you want enabled to do maintenance on the printer. Install only the drivers on any other machines. From the installation disc this can be done by choosing "Custom installation" when prompted and then unchecking the Smart Panel installation option.

And just to let off some steam, I hate Smart Panel's invasiveness, and as a software developer, I'm disgusted by this crime against the industry and humanity.

How would this Smart Panel be present after a Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 ?

Most tech enthusiasts would never run the grossly inferior Factory Preinstall, which is the worst possible install of Win7 one can have.
