Guess i'm a lil to late, i was going to say try just uninstalling SuperAntiSpyware. Had a problem for a few days where my explorer was crashing..found out it was SuperantiSpyware causing it.. removed it haven't had any problems what so ever. Hopefully that gets fixed.

Also other ways mine would crash is when i sometimes right click a file..took awhile for it to respond and sometimes crashed..another issue SAS has caused me.. just a heads up.

You can copy files out of windows.old but cannot run programs which must be reinstalled.

Once you're sure you have got all your files out, you can delete .old using Disk Cleanup.

You should safeguard your Product Key like any valuable worth $100+.

Don't know if this helps but I remember some colleagues having a similar problem to the OP. Turned out to be a nasty little virus. Don't remember what they used to get rid of it though. Maybe it'll get you going in the right direction.

If this has already been mentioned my apologies, I only read the first few posts.
