Windows 7: My Computer "Snoozes" on Waking from Sleep

My Computer "Snoozes" on Waking from Sleep

I have Windows 7 Professional installed on a Lenovo T61p notebook. The computer originally came with Windows Vista installed; I installed 7 myself and it worked perfectly for about 6 months until my system board crashed. Once the system board was replaced, however, my computer now "snoozes".

That is to say, when the computer is woken from sleep or hibernate mode it will wake up and become fully functional for 5-10 seconds before immediately putting itself back into sleep or hibernate mode. Naturally, this is extremely irritating. Nineteen times out of twenty it will work fine after being woken up for the second time. Occasionally, though, there will be appear to be a dark gray haze over the screen that cannot be fixed by adjusting screen brightness or anything else short of a restart.

Any ideas how to fix this?

(Lenovo/IBM will not assist since Windows 7 was not factory installed, and although it seems logical to me, they do not acknowledge a connection between the problem and the new system board. Their only advice was to update all drivers, which I have done to no avail.)

First off, let me say that the first thing that comes up when searching "system goes back into standby" on Google brings up this: T61 goes into standby? - Yahoo! Answers

Secondly, you said you did an upgrade over your Vista installation? You should really do a clean installation if possible. Upgrades are really buggy and there's always a large chance that something will go wrong.

I did thoroughly google my problem before taking the time to register for this forum in the hopes that some fresh pairs of eyes might have answers. Unfortunately, google did not turn up any solutions that worked.

Yes, I did clean install Windows 7; the install worked perfectly before the system board was replaced roughly six months later.

What was the original issue with the board? Was it the GPU chipset? Because my old HP used to have an overheating issue which would cause the screen to display incorrectly. That may be a symptom.

Did you ever update the BIOS on your old board, if so, perhaps the new board needs an update as well.

Also, have you checked all BIOS settings to make sure they're in line with your previous mainboard?
