    Yep, it hangs, doesn't it?

This thread started in May 2009 and is still going strong. Windows can really do it, can't they?

I built a brand new computer for my wife - 64 bit AMD four core processor, 2x2GB 1333Mhz DDR3 RAM, the works. She's a teacher and it's more than adequate for what she needs. Windows 7 64bit went in as a new install. I'm a programmer and I use Debian Linux - it NEVER hangs and NEVER crashes. At worst I kill a misbehaving process of one or other application very infrequently. So, of course, this went on her new computer, as well.

Windows 7 hangs randomly, but not as frequently as some of you have it. I saw the sound driver and Ralink wireless driver this computer has mentioned in some posts. I'll update the Ralink driver to a Windows 7 version, although it works fine. I don't think the version of the CD is for Windows 7. I'll get it to work, in the end I always do.

Under my wise tutelage my wife hardly ever uses Windows anymore. Do yourselves a favour, install a solid, heavy duty operating system. Here's a step by step guide: Debian User Forums • View topic - Newbie Basic setup for avg joe user Step by Step revised You will need an Internet connection for this to work. Know what hardware you have. I had to install the Ralink Linux driver from the Debain site as it is not open source. Use Cups to install your printer, if it's not picked up during the install. There's a lot of help available online.

The problem is hardware, just get hardware 100% compatible with windows vista or windows 7, latest bios and latest drivers for everything and operating system stability should never be an issue.

    Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit

I had the same problem. My Windows 7 32 bit was inevitably freezing one time (approx. for 1-3 min.) during one session. This used to happen at any point of time and disregarding the actions performed.
Disabling AHCI in BIOS was ultimate solution.
