Pretty much sygnus. I wish they never included it in the first place.

The guy was asking for a way to make it a 7.9 so that is what I offered. He never said he needed a way to boost the encoding, just the score.

I guess the question is, has anyone ever gotten a perfect 7.9?

It may not be possible with any CPU that exists today. Or maybe you need dual 980s to reach it. Same as you need dual SSDs raided (Or some other massive array) to reach 7.9 for HD?

Hey, I ain't made. You gave him an option. I would have did the same thing... with my caveat

After looking at the tutorial I started to ask myself "Maybe I can make my score something higher than 7.9, like 8.1". Just want to let everyone know, you can't. Not having it be between 1.0 and 7.9 causes and error where no score will show at all.

That's good, otherwse we'd see scores like 10 and a flood fest of posts asking "why isn't my WEI score 10, i'm only getting 7.9"

I've not seen anyone post all 7.9s in the WEI thread myself.

Well it is mostly known that 7.9 is the limit. In fact at least a couple of "clever" people were caught posting fake scores in the Show us your WEI thread. Until windows 8 comes out, anything posted over a 7.9 is laughable. :)

I just repped this poster here... WEI - Is it worth the bother?

WEI gives you a reasonable idea of the levels of system performance. I don't believe it means to be a serious benchmarking tool, but many people are offended when it doesn't accurately reflect their hardware upgrades, etc. If there is a real concern that some part of the system is under-performing then a dedicated benchmarking tool can be used to evaluate it. WEI is not that tool. Just ignore it.
This is one of the the best analysis I've read about WEI. Well stated
    Perfect.

I have a single Corsair 256GB SATA III SSD that gets 7.9 - you don't need an array.

Well that actually illustrates my point. Before that drive, you couldn't, you had to raid them. Now, with some new drives geting faster and faster it's hit the limit of the score.

It's possible that you may have to wait for a newer, faster, higher core count CPU before a single cpu will hit 7.9

ALL the scores were probably unatainable when the current version of the equations were coded at least 2 years ago now :)

The elusive 7.9 for the CPU has been reach and documented.

AFAIK they are all on N2 cooling, seriously extreme setups. Maybe some dual processor system.

Unless your ready to go to those lengths, 7.8 is the highest any normal enthusiast can get.
Enjoy your 4-7.9's and that 7.8. It's a great machine.

MS, Intel and the other hardware manufacturers have made enough money from WEI scores, I'll bet they had this planned for a long time, marketing genius that one.

It initially came out after Vista, people couldn't use Aero and were getting mad so MS came up with a way for everyone to test their computer before buying Vista. It was also meant to generally tell you which part of your system was possibly in need of an upgrade.

Now look at what it's become! An upgrade marketing tool and sales generator.
