Quick question about my External USB Drive

I have my WD 1tb drive permanently connect to the Rig and have no intention of changing that, just wondering if I tick the box marked in yellow in the graphic I will see much performance gain ?

Some but i t will be louder, and less secure for data. If you are just storing data on it and not using it for the OS, page file, or other read/write intense activity it wont make much difference.

Hi Steve, since you are already experiencing your rig with 6GB RAM, there'll be hardly any noticable difference.

If the better performance option is checked and the USB HD is always connected, would one have to use Safely Remove prior to shutting down the laptop? I understand that shutting down and manually disconnecting the USB HD are not the same but am curious as to how the OS will nterpret it. If writes haven't been made, would the OS force them prior to fully shutting down?

Huh? Can you please explain how enabling write-caching could possibly make the drive louder?
