USB setting is set to selective suspend: disabled, whereas PCI-e Link state power management is set to off. I don't think that either of those should adversely affect USB devices.

It does look like it was that which caused the problem. Being an XP x64 driver didn't help and it was just after that when the BSOD started. I will get the newer WHQL drivers when I re-install them....
