I believe your description is not enough. Is it booting up fine? If so, it's probably the dedicated GPU not seated properly or you haven't configured it properly in the bios....or could be the driver...

1400x900 has 16:10 aspect ratio. I'm pretty sure as long as they are exactly the same size the panel will fit in to the other.

Why don't just replace the hard drive instead?
