Likely they are treated as removable drives, but your external mybook is treated as a fixed drive. I don't know why that would cause this issue

Yes, but it isn't ultra fancy. Leaving fat32 selected will support both bios and efi boot. But fat32 has a max file of 4gb. If the install.wim is bigger, you would have to split the thing.
