I wouldn't be using USB drives on this, just the gaming devices.
I remembered I have a hub with no switches and tried the devices (Saitek X52 and Nostromo N52) in that and they seem to work OK, so a...

USB cable on/off switch?

Does anyone know if you can buy a little USB2.0/3.0 cable extension with a switch on it, for turning the device on and off? I have bought some (very cheap) from eBay and from Amazon (UK), but the...

OK, thanks for the warning. Since I always use a PS2 keyboard with the 'PS2 OK' PC, I never move the plug. Only done so now when testing. Won't do it again then! I think everything is OK.

Oh, sorry, you mean totally 'off' - not just in the quasi-off reboot state? On the PC that accepts the PS2 though, I can disconnect and reconnect as often as I like whilst the PC is running; the PS2...

PS2 Keyboard - works on one PC, not on the other

Both PCs run Win7 x64. On one, when I plug in a PS2 keyboard, it works immediately. On the other, it doesn't. I know the PS2 port is OK on that second PC, as a PS2 keyboard works fine in the BIOS...

Yes, I was lucky with the PS2 - it's a relatively new PC, so it wasn't a given that when I checked on the back that a PS2 port would be there. I use a PS2 keyboard on my second PC, so all was well.

I haven't noticed any difference (yet) when I boot, so I'll leave it on Full. I just wondered exactly how the PC responded differently at boot with the two settings. Does full just mean more 'BIOS...

USB - Partial or Full Initialization in BIOS?

I Googled "Partial or Full Initialization in BIOS" to see the difference, but only found threads where setting to one or the other was suggested to cure various PC issues...

I had a bit of a...

OK, thanks. I have a suspicion (that I will try to test out at some stage) that my USB 3.0 speeds are not all that much better than those for my USB2.0. In which case, if I do get BSODs again (the...

It doesn't matter whether the hardware is plugged into a USB2 or USB3 port, it's having the Intel USB3 controller active that causes the problem.

So you are saying that this Asus board will not be...

How to replace Intel USB3.0 controller?

Hi. It is well recorded across various forums (including Saitek's own) that Saitek gaming hardware (eg X52) has a big issue (leading to BSODs) with Intel USB 3.0. Another here:

Saitek X52 Pro on...

Thanks Megahertz - I think I knew that at one stage, but had forgotten. If I move 1GB between my SSDs, it takes under 10 seconds; obviously HDD to HDD via USB will be a lot slower: I have to...

Thanks... To be honest, I never understand the USB3.0 625MB/s given speed. What is that unit exactly? You surely can't move 1GB of data in under 2 seconds?? Is my average of about 4MB/s the best I am...

USB3.0 transfer (low) speeds??

So many articles online on USB speeds of course, but I still can't work out why I have such low transfer speeds, or whether, under the circumstances, this is what I should expect in practice. Can...

Thanks for the ideas. I really don't want to put a HDD into the case: for various reasons I want to keep it SSD. I'd love an SSD but for the size I need I can't justify the cost. Finally, I have...

This is the sort of advice out there...
