Hmm. That seems to have only worked temporarily... it worked fine last night for a few hours and stopped working this morning. Re-did the steps provided by Capt.Jack Sparrow and it worked again for two hours before shutting down and refusing to start up.

What steps should I take from here?

    Hello,

Do you have any add-ons for Windows Live Messenger like Smileys, Games etc. If you have any uninstall them go to Programs and Features and check and see if you have any. Check this article for more assistance Windows Live Messenger is not Responding - Windows Live

    Hope this helps,

If this were a standing problem, we'd all be having the same issue, and it would be all over the net... Are you using the beta release?
No Iam not, I bought a brand new HP with Windows 7 and its doing it on there. Phoned HP and they got me to completely restore laptop to factory settings.

I have an older laptop that has windows Vista, so as I was so peed off with the new laptop went back to using old one and the MSN had been working fine, then same friggin message!!!! Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! MSN made me update to the newer version and since then its happened. Please help cos I have a Dad in UK 78 and its the only way we get to "see" each other.
