software indicator for HD/DVD and LAN

The wonderful designers at Dell decided not to include indicators for hard disk, DVD or LAN access and I was wondering if anyone knew of software that would provide this ?

    Thanks

Were you looking for something like Resource Monitor (copy and paste that in to the start menu search bar).

I am looking for something that will simulate what the Hardware LED Disk or LAN indicators would do. Flash when there is activity

I don't think there is a program like that. I noticed this on my moms Studio 17 as well. Makes no sense at all. *shakes head*

Is there a gadget for this kind of thing? I found one, but it only shows one drive at a time and it does not work for the DVD drive

Can anyone write a gadget for this?

hi Francisco6x, and welcome to sevenforums,

have a look at this thread...Taskbar Meters Turn Your Taskbar into a System Resource Monitor

it might not be exactly what you want, though.

i use rainmeter for my system resource monitoring needs, and one thing it can do is put a little histogram of cpu usage history in your notification area - i'm pretty sure it can measure other things too, but i don't think you can have multiple meters there. would be a nice extra...

I am still looking and haven't found anything. Unfortunately the problem also stems from no LAN indicator on the Dell laptop. The connector occasionally pops out or is loose, plus I may have a cable problem. But without an indicator to use for testing, I have no way of troubleshooting the problem.

ah sorry - didn't realise that the taskbar meters don't do lan.

however, the aforementioned rainmeter can also do this sort of stuff:

although thinking about it, rainmeter is a bit overkill - surely you can find a desktop gadget?
