3ds Max 'was unable to start' (0xc000007b)

    Hey guys.
I've been trying to get 3ds Max working for quite a bit now. I used it before and it was fine, but it was before W7 came out, I think I was on the beta or RC version back then.

Anyway, whenever I try to install 3ds max (I've tried 2008, 2009, and now 2010) and when I try to launch it, I get this error:

    ---------------------------
    3dsmax.exe - Application Error
    ---------------------------
The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b). Click OK to close the application.
    ---------------------------
    OK
    ---------------------------

It's really pissing me off. Nothing else, no splash screen, just that error, that's it. Compatibility mode doesn't work in either 32bit or 64bit versions.
I've installed all DirectX related things and updated them. I have .net framework 4. I installed all the updates and hotfixes from the official Autodesk site. No change, at all, except the fact that all these slowly chipped away my C drive space (I have below 10 GB left, stupid 40GB SATA drive) despite that I install my large programs onto another drive, including Autodesk software.

Yeah, I could really use 3ds right now. It's been like this for a while, I gave up a few weeks ago, now my friend encouraged me to try again, so yeah.

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Why are you giving me a link to something that's completely useless to me and unrelated?
    1) I'm not using 2009, I'm using 2010
    2) I'm not getting that error
    3) I'm not even able to launch the program like he is
    4) I've already stated that I've tried using compatibility mode and it doesn't work.

Why not call up Autodesks' tech support and ask them.

Hi, I registered just to provide my input!

    I had this same error.

    I fixed mine.

    Try This:

Uninstall Max (all of it, components the lot)

Now reinstall, but when configuring locations to install to make sure you do not install 32 and 64 bit versions to the same location, otherwise windows will get confused at trying to load a 32 bit exe under 64 bit architecture rules.

    Hope it helps :)

(I reinstalled Windows before working it out )

Oooh my god, that makes sense so much. I'm going to try this today. Thanks dude. Funnily enough I did this EVERY time.
I'll tell you how it goes when I get back from work. Thanks!

    Hi Kaneth

I tried to follow your instructions above but I can seem to find the part of the setup that lets you put the 64 bit files separate from the 32 bit.
