    Java.. Windows XP Sp 3

I was trying to prepare for the New Java version.
I've always gone to my control panel.. hit Add/Remove let my programs load.. then un-install Jave before getting the newer version.. then reboot my pc..
I have done it as above.. It won't verify..
I went back to my control panel.. my Java Icon is there..

    Cannot open it..
I get a message .. " The System Cannot find the registery key specified " .....Now what ?

Thanks for helping me with this.

    Do this ...

    Updating Java:
    • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6.
    • Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u21 allows end-users to run Java applications".
    • Click the "Download" button to the right.
    • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
    • The page will refresh.
    • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
    • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
    • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
    • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
    • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
    • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
    • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
    • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u21-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.
    JavaRa will uninstall old Java

Jacee hello.. this didn't fix my Java..
I'm still getting the same message as before..
I can't open Java in the Control Panel. to look at anything.
Do I need to use the Geek link to download and run that to clear this all out ?
I don't know what to do now.

LPt, download Revo uninstaller and uninstall Java. Then install it it again as you did before and register it. The registration is for updates if I remember correctly. Let me know if this works.

Ok I've used Revo uninstaller to un-install Java.. there was one item left in my ADD/Remove /Control panel.. so I un-installed it in Add/remove..
    I ran ATF cleaner..
    I ran CCleaner
I looked in my Win Patrol.. there was still a Java item there.. I clicked it.. that took me to
another place where I saw items in a row..(JAVA)) I began at the bottom deleting items..
.. one folder Refused to delete..so left it intact.
i came back to my desktop.. ran that Java removal tool from Geeks.. ( everything connected with Java I had it to remove.)
    I Rebooted my pc..
Then I went to Controp Panel there sat that infernal Java Icon.. I clicked it to open ..
getting this screen. I took this screen shot of it. ..so you may see what I'm seeing.
