You'll have to raise your own user account permissions from standard to admin if you have more then one account. When first installing Windows that account is automatically made the admin there and should be the one you are logged into.

The idea of any other secondary standard accounts for regular activities simply provides an additional layer of security but hampers full control if you have another present. Change a user's account type

Another non MS reference is for How to Change User Account Type to Standard or Administrator in Windows 7?

Is your User Account Control on or off? Note the following still applies to Vista and 7 as well as 98 where the system tool was first seen.

Quote:
To run the System File Checker, please do the following:
1. Click Start – Run, type SFC /SCANNOW and press Enter.

Note: This requires the user to be logged in as an administrator with an user account with Admin privilege. Also, it prompts the user to insert the Windows 2000/Windows XP/Windows 2003 and/or Service Pack CD or enter the path for the installation source.
That's simply from one reference source alone at System File Checker (SFC) in Windows 2000,Windows XP, Windows 2003 | Windows Reference

Typically the Windows installation disk for whichever version should be in the optical drive already instead of waiting for the tool to prompt for it. Be sure the UAC(User Account Control) is off however as that will prompt on any system related items. This is the likely reason for that message.

You lost your 7 dvds!

That isn't going to help you any if you never made at least a full system image or at least a good backup. You can still start and run the sfc but if it needs to replace something....... you'll be in quite a fix there!

Your best option is simply borrowing a disk for the same edition from someone you know in order to run the sfc. For a complete replacement install you would simply use your own key since that's your license for 7 if you still can remember that much or wrote it down if not having the insert.

One thing you should always do is keep track of any OS and software disks alike especially the OS disks. The repair cd for the 7 repair tools option in 7 will only burn a cd with the same tools found on the dvd but won't help you again with the sfc there.

Unfortunately the loss of the 7 disks to start with is the main problem that needs to be solved. The only way to avoid the cost of replacement of course depending on what distance you made during the move would be having the fortune of someone you knew then or a mover having run across them and held onto them for you.

In the long run however you may as well plan on at least one replacement to keep you going now.
