    Where to download 7-zip or winzip


    Hi folks,

    Win7 64 bit

    Please advise where can I download a free version Winzip? I download a trial version on following site.

    Or a free version 7-zip. TIA

    I knew it was seen at SorceForge some time back. The comparisons at this site are worth the look however between various programs. 7-Zip | The Best Zip Compression Utility

    That is one to keep track of there for sure. I have someone asking for portable apps quite often!

    As for WinRar the trial doesn't have a time limit. You simply have to click the continue button until getting the full version. That goes right on both the 64bit as well as the 32bit XP, Vista, 7 without problems as a good alternate.

    Hi Night Hawk,

    That is TRUE, not a joke.

    I did it 4~5 years ago. Running Linux, full version, on an USB thumb drive. It worked seamlessly. 4~5 years ago the USB thumb drive was very expensive. I have to make heavy compression on the OS for installing the complete Linux OS on a 1G thumb drive. On running the Linux OS on another PC (of course it must support boot at USB drive) heavy and quick decompression was necessary. You can find all necessary stuffs on Open Source, free to use.

    I haven't tested Windows portable. I think it should work but needs a big size USB thumb drive for installation. I have no idea on the speed in running portable Windows.

    I did OpenOffice portable before on an USB thumb drive. It also works without problem but slow.
