I have come across several sites which offer a 64 bit version of GIMP, but they have this these words of caution...

Warning: this is an experimental installer that hasn't been tested as much as the stable installer above. This installer includes 32 and 64-bit version of GIMP and also includes everything needed to run GIMP Python scripts.

Have any of you installed the 64 bit version of GIMP and if so how has it worked on your Win 7 x64 computer?

I'm running GIMP X64. No problems here. I did have to disable my anti-virus before running the installer.

I didn't even know that was out. I have been running GIMP 2.6.8 for quite some time on x64 with no issues.

I have had very good luck with PaintShop pro. It is not free but costs much less than photoshop and runs most photoshop plugins. Fairly powerful software for the money.

This is great news I think I'll install GIMP 2.6.10 x64 tonight and thanks to having Sandboxie x64 and Comodo x64 for security I don't have an Antivirus to disable! I'll let you know how it goes...

After uninstalling GIMP 2.6.9 x32 with Revo Uninstaller Pro x64 I turned around and installed 2.6.10 x64 in seconds flat! I must admit that the GUI looks the same, but this x64 bit version is able to render a 42.2 MB PSD in 2.19 seconds! I can't speak for the stability of the program yet, but from what I understood from the initial pop-up was that it is the installer that is unstable and not the GIMP 2.6.10 x64 program.

I'm just thrilled to have GIMP x64 after using so many iterations of the x86 version for 2-1/2 years starting I believe with v2.4.

So far GIMP 2.6.10 x64 is working just fine although it does take about 1 second longer to open than 2.6.9 x32 did. The list of files that it opens also appears to be somewhat different than what I am used to seeing.

Hey, i was wondering if you guys knew of any free photo editing programs that are like Photoshop. Iv'e heard good things about GIMP but is it the best out there?
    Thanks
well, I get your point... You want photo editing software as well as Photoshop but you'd like it to be free...
    How's that possible/
If the free photo editing software are as good as ps, why do others pay for ps at such a high price??
