Lol. My biggest problem with 7 is the taskbar not necessarily the whole system. But Win 7 supposedly is better. I hate the confirmations in Vista. Have you guys actually tried it yet? And is it really that good?
You can turn them off in Vista.

In Win7 there are 4 levels to chose from so you only get them for the things you want them for. I personally think the default is way better than how it was in Vista.

I go days at a time without getting a single prompt for authorization, so they are in no way annoying like they were in Vista.

What do you dislike about the Win7 taskbar? Please be specific.

The Win 7 taskbar is kinda pale and not so much as dark as Vista. The black added a new element. What really is the true difference with 7? Taskbar, a few features here and there, WMP 12? Why should I upgrade from Vista Ultimate to any version of 7 that is of substance? Why is it necessary?

Onto WMP 12... has anyone who has used the Win 7 beta used WMP12 or is it not in the beta yet?

WMP12 is in all the copies of WIN7 we are all running. It is actually a really good update, much better than the "downgrade" that was known as WMP11.

And yes, I understand about wanting it Black, I just use a black background and thus my taskbar is still black :) I found that as long as its not white, I don't mind it being the color of the background.

And yes the taskbar has tons of new features. Aero snap alone is worth the upgrade IMO. I am not trying to say Windows7 will make you breakfast in bed, but it certainly doesn't deserve to be ripped on and be called not worth the upgrade, especially when its not even finished yet.

this is a minor release remember???

remember the days of W98 Win98R2 or Win ME???

not that many features have been changed and thats good (for those that tried vista and love it.... i am among one of them....)

too much change is what it is....

    too much...

there are a few things that will make me what to upgrade....

startup repair is for me one of them....

its useful for my computer illiterate family since all they have to do is follow the prompts and most problems ( regarding boot up) should go away....

that alone will save a lot of down time since you are not booting from the disc and since this WIN PE there is almost no chance of a virri from going in to this boot....

also the fact that if there is you can always fallback to the cd.....

since the most basic drivers are loaded there should almost be no error of booting up into this partition and try to repair your machine....

there the simple things that will make life easier for me and my family....

About the WMP 12 thing...I don't have Win 7 on my system now. But can anyone link me to a setup whether by upload or on a credible site where I can download it and not have to tweak around with secret .dll files that people out there are promoting? Where can I go to get the real WMP12 on my beta setup DVD of Win 7? Where do I look on the disc etc?

What about Skins? Will I be able to use skins for 11 and 10 with version 12 of WMP? Or is that a closed issue? Are there skins out there that are new and for 12 exclusively?

Um, there is no "easy" way to install WMP12 on Vista right now. So if you want to try it you will have to do those tweaks. It isn't so easy as just ripping it out of the disk...

    Why not just install Win7 ? :)

Boy, oh boy. I tried to get WMP 12 to work on my Vista but the copying and other rigmaroles but it wouldn't allow me to. I couldn't copy the necessary files to program files folder and the .dll file. It's dumb. I am gonna wait until they have a setup program that uses a wizard to let you install what you want and choose your own settings. Whether an exe or something that doesn't come off as a hack but rather as a legit program. And the interface wasn't that hot either from what I have seen. I prefer 11 but I guess if I wanna use WMP, I have to go with version 12 for a while.

    Thanks anyway guys.

You won't prefer 11 once you use it. It is all about it working better now, not so much the fufu cosmetics, finally.

Windows Seven Release Date ... I Want Win 7 So Bad

It's 2009 but I still have no idea if and when Windows 7 will be released in this year. Man I am keeping my fingers crossed for May to June. I have seen the screenshots and even a few imitation skins that allows a Windows 7 look ion Vista as a theme. They look great and I can just imagine how the real thing will look. I am not really a fan of the new taskbar yet but I may have to tweak settings to make it look as dark as Vista's. Everything else seems familiar even with a few improvements but pleasing none-the-less. As for Windows Media Player 12, I have not tried it yet but it looks interesting so it may grow on me. It's funny though how when Vista was coming out everyone wanted a copy and bittorrent was in full gear. PC people wanted to test it out by any means and bittorrent was the place. They even came out with pre-activated versions so people could use it permanently in x32, x64, etc. I heard people managed to achieve such things but others who tried the invalid route got a wake up call when Windows confirmations came up and froze the software OS. What will happen in Seven? Will there be tighter restrictions like as I mentioned or will it be looser with XP and ME? Or will piracy get the better of Microsoft? Will it be as easy to use Win 7 without having to enter a bag of keys from sources? MS has been giving away betas of Win 7 and it has been buzzed about for months now. Is this sincere or a trap? Is this some kind of reverse psychology thing to catch bootleggers? Whatever the outcome I want my Win 7 to install legally so I can get to enjoy so I hope Microsoft lets the cat out of the bag by June the latest.

    What do you think?
