Windows 7 & All Solidworks 2007-2009 CAD Compatibility Issues

Hello to all Solidworks Cad users who have made the switch over to Windows 7.

Back in January I installed W7 and nearly everything worked quite flawlessly. With the exception of two drivers &/or softwares:

1- Asus Rampage Extreme Supremfx x-fi Creative Sound Blaster driver recognition & creative audio console launcher.

    Most importantly of all is...

2- Dassault Solidworks 2007 thru 2009 all service packs 0 thru 5.0 & 3.0 early visibility with 2009, install properly display properly but seem to have some bug.

The bug/issue is that you can not open any SW or other imported CAD files without causing the program to immediately crash.

Also, you can not save any files that you work with in Solidworks that are new either.

To go without the web based client sound processing software from creative is a big deal, as I like most everyone on the planet loves music.

Yet I was content to go on using W7 with it's basic plain sound, as opposed to the multi-faceted processing power of creatives' sound blaster software.

It should be noted that another thread here on Seven Forums has brought some light upon this issue.

Just this thread is titled such to make the issue more known so that Solidworks users as well as microsoft are clearly made aware of the situation.

So, that these issues can become resolved prior to the upcoming W7 RC(which is already being used...just I have not tried it out yet), as well as the Windows 7 retail version release.

I can say that Windows7 RC 7100 now opens/saves files within the SW application rather well.

And, I am now back to W7 for good.

I seem to have all hardware & software working with the exception of an important Solidworks 2009 add-on program for mating gears to motors, racks, etc.

The program is called Gearteq 2009, which worked flawlessly with Solidworks 2009 in Vista.

Gearteq is a separate program which allows engineers and designers to create cad models from a sophisticated algorythim formula, setting all the parameters even seeing a mesh-like 3d model.

Which once converted into a 3D model whether Solidworks, Pro E, Catia, Ug, etc. then creates the fully healed solid model for usage in the primary cad application.

In my case this happens to be Solidworks 2009, from within Gearteq 2009 I repeatedly get a message stating that I must choose to select the previous cad platform to create a cad model.

Yet the I have this selection checked off, also I have tried clicking thru 2009-2006 with the same results. The Gearteq program simply will not recognize that Solidworks in even available to do the connection for the conversion process.

Anyone else out there using Solidworks 2009 & Gearteq 2009 with Windows 7 who has this same issue or not please drop a note here.

    Thank You in advance

    Thunder

I am considering installing Windows 7 x64 RC 7100 and Solidworks 2009 x64 to see if I can resolve a current "daily" crashing problem my users have with Windows XP x32 SP3 and Solidworks 2009 SP2 workstations.

    Your Current users crashing issue....

    Hello Kiwi,

Once you have installed W7 RC & SW09, your crashing issues should be a thing of the past. As the RC platform is quite stable and meshes rather well with the SW program within 64 bit to provide impressive performance.

Currently, I run an antique in a Q6600, W7's 64 bit environment when provided with the newer i7 technology would work all the better to give a more streamlined cad experience especially while using with large assemblied drawings in SW.

So, I mention i7 as the 2gb I use now has to be the minimum memory for designing using both W7 & SW, the newer tri-channel memory platform is superior in both speed and stability.

Thanks for that. The machines I will be trialling it on are HP xw4600 Workstations with Quadro Graphics Cards and 4 GB of RAM.

Interesingly, I also have an Opteron Workstation in there.

Well, 4 GB is great and the Quadro cards are quite nice as specialized cards.

I know that you will enjoy both W7 & SW.

X64 was a bit tricky to install ... had to download all the patches separeately and then run them individually as administrator.

    It runs though.
