Are they actually 64-bit applications though or just "designed to work with 64-bit Windows" as they stated.

Yes, they state Vista 64-bit, however I beta test for PC Tools and I have run them on my Windows 7 machine with no problems.

Thats what Im trying to confirm. stating that they run on 64-bit windows is not the same as the actual program being natively compiled as 64-bit itself. The actual programs you linked could be 32-bit applications that run on a 64-bit operating system.

Yes, like most programs they can run on multiple OS's.

    Designed for Windows® Vista™ 64-bit SP1, Vista™ 32-bit, XP (Home and Professional Editions) and 2000.

So, if you're looking just for specify apps that only run on 64-bit, then I made a mistake and maybe a moderator could pull the post or I could edit it and delete the info.

What we're looking for in this thread are applications that are native 64-bit rather than 32-bit apps that happen to run in 64-bit Windows.

The gimp and Openoffice (I think that may be available in x64 too), are the two best open source software packages ever written

    I beg to differ!

BLENDER is definitely one of the very best open source packages ever!
And there is a x64 version: Blender

It does not have an installer but comes in an archive...still, it is 64-bit! =)

By the way, I was going to post about GIMP, but I tried their x64 version and was not running well on my Win7 RC. It started up, but the menus weren't working correctly...but maybe others will have better luck?
