Windows 7: Dave's Quick Search Installed on W7 7100 64 bit

Attached are the error messages I am getting during boot up. I went to Taskbar>Toolbar & unchecked QuickSearch - The explorer restarted by itself. When I look at the TaskBar apps again QuickSearch was now called DQSD Deskbar and did not appear on the TaskBar though it was checked. I then tried to delete the installation directory and was able to delete everything except DQSDTools64.dll because The system call level is not correct. I then rebooted.

After rebooting there were no references to Quick Search on the TaskBar menu. I ran CCleaner, but did nor see anything associated with QuickSearch.

Could you be more specific with the registry entries??? I am extremely comfortable editing the registry.

I try again tomorrow.

NOTE: Turning the Quick Search Toolbar Off by right clicking the Taskbar>Tools option WILL FAIL and cause an Explorer restart UNLESS the Taskbar is LOCKED.

Try again. Turn it off using the note above. Boot into SAFE mode. Delete the TEMP install folder. Delete the C:\Program Files\Quick Search installation folder. Empty the Recycle bin.

Boot into regular mode and verify no start up errors. Repeat the installation paying particular attention to the instructions to bypass Win 7 security. I think that may be the source of the problems.

The actual registry entries are done by the SETUPX64.CMD installation command file. Be careful of course.

It looks like I finally got it installed and was able to delete the temp directory after a reboot. The only problem I seem to still have is a error message saying that it can't register hotkeys. I don't mind this because I don't want to use hot keys with it. I would love to know what context menu items I can get rid of. I've never used any of them, but I can live with them

You have another hotkey program that it is conflicting with.

There are two files located in the installation folder "C:\Program Files\Quick Search Deskbar"

preferences.js
localprefs.js

These set options for Quick Search. "preferences.js" is the system settings defaults. "localprefs.js" is your template customizations.

Easiest way to customize is to copy preferences.js and overwrite localprefs.js. Then edit localprefs.js to make your startup customizations.

What version of IE is Win 8.1 running? If it is IE11 there is a newly discovered problem.

Well .. yes IE11 but in fact I use FF most of the times. Possibly IE has something to do with the general compatibility and it is independent of what browser you use. Something doesn't install properly .. I assume it's the dll but I am not sure. In any case .. I really miss this thing ;-)

Yes.

1) Go to C:\Program Files\Quick Search Deskbar
2) Edit SEARCH.HTM
3) At the the top of the file add the highlighted line below:

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN">
<html>
<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;charset=iso-8859-1">
<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=7">
<!--

4) Exit and save the file.
5) Restart Dave's Quick Search.

That should be sufficient to get it running. Unfortunately it will lose the Calendar and the Menus and will create a small outline/border but the basic search function will be restored.
