    That should be sufficient to get it running. Unfortunately it will lose the Calendar and the Menus and will create a small outline/border but the basic search function will be restored.

    Thanks!!! I always have to fiddle around a bit but I got it to work. I also managed to edit the css to my needs by trial and error but I don't use fancy stuff .. just searches .. so all I need is an input field. I can gladly share but like I said .. I am the try guy ;-)

    Two things I can't fix:

    1. You can't drag the mouse pointer to the task bar to fade it in where the DQSD field is (my task bar is always faded out). So I have to drag beside it.
    2. I get this error on first launch: There was a problem initializing the enhanced keyboard support - some key combinations and hotkeys may not work. Error details: 0x80070581 - 'Hotkey registration failed'

    If you have any idea .. feel free

    On the Hotkey problem. I have seen it before on some installs. Best I can tell there may be another program which uses Hotkey and has a conflict. You can might try editing/ the PREFERENCES.JS to redefine the hotkey assignments and maybe eliminating the conflict.. First copy it to LOCALPREFS.JS so you are not editing the system master.

    The fade problem. I don't use it but it may be that the DQSD code is older than taskbar fading. I really would have no clue.

    I would like a copy of your CSS file to test with. If I PM you with an email would you send it?

    Thanks!

    On every PC I install Daves Quick Search and it has always been a hassle since support ended. My directory is full of test versions with different reg files and stuff .. frankly said I'm lost. Right now I want to install on Win7x64 and it won't work. My puzzle starts with the fact that I don't know if version 4110 is suitable for an x64 system or if the right way to go is with the older x64 version?!

    Can anyone help me (possibly for good) by maybe providing exactly the files that they use for installation? I am not looking for a 3 page instruction .. rather just a quick one that is proven to work. In fact it should suffice to install a version, make sure the dll is properly registered, install a fixed reg file and possibly set folder rights. Every system I face seems to have a bit different requirements .. at least in my confused world.

    I am quite sure that I would get it to work somehow .. but the time spent es really not nice.

    Anyone?

    Once Again having problems installing

    I am in the process of rebuilding my Win 7 64bit PC. I am unable to get it to display correctly.

    Please take a look at (http://neilswartz.com/DQS_Err.jpg). It shows the script error I'm getting on load and how QuickSearch look on the taskbar.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    As mentioned above the process seems to be a bit uncontrollable. Some steps that I do in general without being 100% sure they are needed: Install the 64bit version as admin. Add full rights to everyone for the DQSD directory, make sure the dll is registered (regsvr32 /s DQSDTools64.dll), then this has to be added to the header of search.htm so it remains compatible with IE11 (credits to others in this thread):
    <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=7">
    And last but not least I have a reg file that I use if it doesn't work from there:
    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{EC9FE983-E520-4D8F-B1A7-ACBCA0439C70}]
    @="Quick Search"
    "AppID"="{5A8D10BB-E86F-4d79-8E43-6D6594C9BFCD}"
    "InstallDir"="c:\\Program Files\\Quick Search Deskbar"
    "HelpText"="Dave's Quick Search"

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{EC9FE983-E520-4D8F-B1A7-ACBCA0439C70}\Implemented Categories]

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{EC9FE983-E520-4D8F-B1A7-ACBCA0439C70}\Implemented Categories\{00021492-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}]

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{EC9FE983-E520-4D8F-B1A7-ACBCA0439C70}\InprocServer32]
    @="c:\\Program Files\\Quick Search Deskbar\\DQSDTools64.dll"
    "ThreadingModel"="Apartment"

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{EC9FE983-E520-4D8F-B1A7-ACBCA0439C70}\ProgID]
    @="DQSDTools.DeskBand"

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{EC9FE983-E520-4D8F-B1A7-ACBCA0439C70}\SecureFiles]
    @=""
    "c:\\Program Files\\Quick Search Deskbar\\search.htm"=dword:00000000

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{EC9FE983-E520-4D8F-B1A7-ACBCA0439C70}\TypeLib]
    @="{6E43F169-92C8-49F7-A554-4950A097DC8E}"

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{EC9FE983-E520-4D8F-B1A7-ACBCA0439C70}\VersionIndependentProgID]
    @="DQSDTools.DeskBand"
    This should do the trick (I think) .. On Win 8.1 I also needed to do some css stuff but on Win7 - if I recall correctly - that isn't needed.

    If you can please help refine this small set of instructions.

    Finally

    I was finally able to get what seems to be a working version of Dave's Quick Search loaded. THe differance this time is that there is no context menu that allowed me to configure and use special searches. I can live with this.

    Thanks again for the help.

    Neil, that's good to hear. Could you let us know which steps you followed?

    Steps I used to install.

    1) Installed it as explained here on the first pages with TaskBar locked..
    2) Changed search search.htm by adding <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=7"> the <head> area.
    3) Ran the registry file above.
    4) Added the Quick Search TaskBar
    5) Unlocked TaskBar
    5) Rebooted

    I ended up with A Dave's QuickSearch toolbar with black text on white background and no context menu that had the configuration options and special searches.
