Brand new Windows 7 not installing software

There are Windows 7 drivers and probably a software update somewhere in the shipload listed: Line 6 :: Software

There's also a forum on that site which might give you quicker answers than waiting for Support, which may try to sell you something that forum members link you to for free.

BTW: are you running Win2000 graphics for a reason? If not rightclick on Desktop>Personalize to choose an Aero Theme, set up a cool background slide show. Or you may need a display driver update?

I've downloaded their software off of there already. It supposedly updated everything for me, but then the guitarport still won't install.
The line 6 forum was much less helpful than this one.
And yeah, I like the old school Win2000 graphics. Ha.

Snakebeard, do you need to run GuitarPort in conjunction with other programs or do you use it primarily as a stand-alone application?

The reason I ask is it would be possible to reinstall XP on a separate partition, like Professor is mentioning, and boot it only when you use GuitarPort. This way, most of the work you do can still be in the wonderful world of Windows 7 and you can just boot into XP when you want to use GuitarPort thereby protecting a bit of your investment albeit at a bit of an inconvenience. (Whew! Now that was a run-on sentence if I ever saw one )

I had the same problem and no help from tech support either. I managed to figure it out so I posted it here for you in case you haven't already figured it out.

I had already done the optimizations etc, and properly installed the software but what happens is that Windows 7 won't install the driver automatically or recognize it in the download. It will still give the "driver did not install" message with the explanation of "no driver present". When it gives you that message, simply click next to finish the installation, and then you will do the following steps to manually install the driver...

I solved the issue by manually installing the driver by scrolling over the windows icon on the bottom left corner, in the searchbox that comes up entering the word run (or select it from the options tab that pops up), then entering hdwiz to bring up the hardware wizard. From there I selected my Guitarport, and selected to manually install the driver from known location (searching for it automatically brought up no results). I then opened up the guitarport folder in the line 6 folder and manually installed the driver from there and finally got a green light on the damn guitarport and sound in gearbox! Whew! What a process! I still don't understand why windows 7 won't automatically recognize the driver, as it did just fine on my desktop with XP pro 64 bit, but hopefully this helps and now your guitarport isn't $200 junk anymore...
