Is there a simple way I can achieve making a copy of 4.5 GB DVD? Without buying or upgrading software?

    Thanks in advance.

The approach of makiing an iso file from the dvd and then burning the iso may by your best approach.

For my needs the free version of UltraISO is sufficient.

    Try ImgBurn: Download ImgBurn 2.5.2.0 - FileHippo.com

Copy the DVD to your hard-drive and then bring up ImgBurn and choose 'Write files/folders to disk' or you can use it to make an ISO.

This isn't really an answer, but I've been using Nero 8.3.13.0 under Win7 Home Premium X64 without any problem. It's sort of a waste, because I only have the burning software installed, but it works OK.
The OP asked: "Is there any free stuff out there I can use to back up / clone of DVDs?"

so how is not my post not an answer? *sigh*
There is a FREE version of the program which has everything he asked for, but I intentionally said that if he needs something more and didn't mention, the full version isn't free... The free version is free to use forever.
"This isn't really an answer" referred to my post that followed; it wasn't a criticism of your suggestions. (Do I write unclearly?)

Nero 8 works for me under Win7. I have no idea why it fails for Jonesnewton.

    Hi,

But I first need to RIP the image, then BURN it. I dont have either facitlity!

Is there an older version of Nero (pre 8) that works with Win 7?

<But I first need to RIP the image, then BURN it. I dont have either facitlity!>

You should have the means to do both on your Acer laptop. I use one myself.

I put a DVD in the drawer - up pops an Autoplay box asking what I want to do. I choose 'make an image with ImgBurn'
Imgburn opens and I click on the big disk button and it rips the disk.
Remove the disk when finished and put in a blank DVD - use Imgburn to burn the ISO.

You need to dowload and install ImgBurn (see my post above for a link) and it should then show up in autoplay.
Or open the program and choose 'Create image file from disk'

    ImgBurn is free to use.

    Hi Kenc

    Excellent

Thanks for this, so easy and simple to rip and burn a DVD

I am glad to get rid of Nero, tho I did like Nero 7 Lite, but this does all I need, plus some other free stuff kicking around.

    PS
    Can I ask a Q?
When you burn the DVD do you have to VERIFY (the box is ticked) as it comes as standard?
DO I HAVE to reinsert the DVD and it re checks it OR is it safe to assume it is done??
